About Joy Of Youth Foundation (JOY)
In December 2010, the Organisation JOY (Joy of Youth) was born out of a desire to impact the lives of children residing in Government-sponsored Children’s Homes. The children were made aware of the power of love and in expression of this love, the founder brought cheer to the children and care-givers of these Homes. Boys and girls who regularly attended Sunday School were treated to an all-day picnic at Hope Gardens where the spirit of fun and happiness engulfed all who were present.
Today, the JOY Foundation has embarked on a mission to foster a caring and nurturing environment for children and youth within these Homes and will provide support to meet special needs.
Joy of Youth Foundation assists in providing a better life for disadvantaged children throughout the island, by supporting children's homes and individuals with specific needs. The organization is planning a number of fund-raising events, including a very exciting golf tournament, in which Jamaicans will play against celebrity visitors, a one- off fundraising benefit concert with Jamaica's most brilliant musicians, a Jamaican Art Auction showcasing the incredible work of the Jamaican artists, small bake sales and other intimate gatherings.
Walkers Place of Safety, in Kingston, Jamaica.
The first Home selected was Walkers Place of Safety, which was founded in 1972 and caters to orphans, abandoned and mentally challenged children. It has a staff complement of 11 persons, and accommodates 42 children. JOY is committed to offer as much assistance as possible to add cheer to the lives of children. On the first Christmas, a number of persons offered to decorate the Home so that the children would have a sense of joy of Christmas, which they will appreciate is underscored through the efforts of JOY, and through the pleasure and happiness which will come to them through the efforts of others, they will become aware of the joy which comes from sharing View Gallery.
Educators are our strongest ally in creating sustainable change through education. In fact, we simply couldn't do it without them. Beverly Hunter, humanitarian, motivator, renaissance woman and founder of the Joy of Youths (JOY), has such passion to give something back to the community and it is for this reason that the Joy of Youth emerged.
To promote the well-being of children and youth resident in Jamaican Children’s Homes by fostering relationships of commitment and love.
